luxury brands trend in Japan [Japanese Topic]

It's said that Japanese loved goods of the luxury brands("高級ブランド") before in the world. Young Japanese women traveled abroad to buy some goods of their favorite luxury brands and Japanese men gave their girlfriend a bag of Louis Vuitton. Actually my wife loved many Prada's goods!

However, at last some luxury brands have withdrawn from a Japanese market. For example, Versace closed all the domestic stores, Gucci will withdraw from the Matsuzakaya("松坂屋") of Ginza("銀座") branch to pasting in 2010. Chanel also closed two stores in 2009.

Sales in Japan of LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton with Louis Vuitton etc. declined by 19% from a year ago and sales in Japan of Richemond with Cartier etc. declined by 25% from a year ago.
The market of the luxury brand goods in Japan reached about 1.9 trillion yen in 1996 of the peak, but it dropped under 1 trillion yen in 2009 and it will keep to drop in the future.

On the other hand, "ファストファッション"(fast fashion) has become popular and the branches of Uniqlo, H&M, and Forever 21 etc. started in Ginza.

Japanese bought goods of the luxury brands to show off. But recently they don't go out to save money and they don't need to show off!

When I was younger, I selected the suits of Calvin Klein etc. which were cool. But recently I select the more expensive suits of Burberry and Paul Smith etc. whose quality is much better. At last better quality result in wearing suits for a longer time and it costs lower.
